Freshman Retention
Â鶹ÊÓƵ takes retention rates very seriously because student retention is the backbone of student achievement. If students do not persist, then they cannot achieve. Student retention reflects how well the University is accomplishing its mission. Therefore, Â鶹ÊÓƵ promotes retention through various initiatives on campus.
Our goal for freshman retention is 76%; this goal is based on Â鶹ÊÓƵ historical data, IPEDS data in comparison with a peer group, and the growth trend for this population.
Transfer Persistence
Approximately 30% of all Â鶹ÊÓƵ students did not start at the University but instead transferred to Â鶹ÊÓƵ at some point in their academic career. Because transfer students constitute a large portion of our student body, their success is important.

Graduation Rates
Graduation is the ultimate goal for assessing student achievement. Although retention reflects the University’s progress toward its goal, graduation is a reflection of the success of the institution mission. Therefore, Â鶹ÊÓƵ values graduation rate as a metric of student achievement.

Departmental Achievements
College of Education
For students planning to teach in Texas public schools, passing the TExES is essential to placement. Thus, the University tracks program pass rates to determine student achievement
Teacher Certification – All tests taken.
The Texas Examination of Educator Standards is the state examination, and passing is required for a student to be placed in Texas public schools at any level. The Texas Educational Association requires teacher education programs to have a pass rate of 80%. The College of Education goal varies by content area, but the goal is always 85% or above.

Scott & White School of Nursing
BSN NCLEX-RN Pass Rates
The undergraduate program in nursing prepares students for the National Council Licensure Examination – RN Exam (NCLEX-RN). This exam is required of all students seeking licensure as a registered nurse. The institution set the outcome goal at 90% passage, with the minimum threshold of 80% set by the Texas Board of Nursing.
Doctor of Physical Therapy
Doctor of Physical Therapy Program National Exam Pass Rates
For students planning to pursue Physical Therapy as a career, passing the national physical therapy exam is essential to placement. Thus, the University tracks program pass rates to determine student achievement. The Texas Board of Physical Therapy requires Doctor of Physical Therapy education programs to have a pass rate of 80% of first time test-takers, and the Â鶹ÊÓƵ goal is 90%.
Professional Counseling Program
Professional Counseling Program National Exam Pass Rates
The Professional Counseling Program also tracks the percentage of students passing their national exams. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling track prepares students to take the exam to be a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). The Marriage, Family and Child Counseling track prepares the students to take the exam to be a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). The chart below illustrates the combined passage rate for these two exams. The Institution set the goal at 90% passage rate with the threshold of 80%.
