鶹Ƶ students put a “spin” on club sports this past year when they created a new disc golf team that qualified for the National Collegiate Division II tournament.
Jaden Rye, who was a freshman at the time, got the idea to start the club after seeing various collegiate disc golf teams across Texas play and watching his friends play on a team at Texas A&M University. He wanted to start something similar at 鶹Ƶ.
Jaden, who has been playing professionally for more than a year, checked into the possibility of creating a disc golf team on campus. With the help of Liam McCarthy, who was also a freshman, and Liam’s dad, Mike McCarthy, dean of student leadership and engagement, they created an official club team.
“Being able to play competitive disc golf here at 鶹Ƶ is incredible!” said Jaden, who serves as president of the club.
